I'm using mlmmj in a shared hosting environment. To fight spam my provider will disable email transmission without authentication on localhost:25

There are tunables "relayhost" ans "smtpport". But there is no option for smtp authentication.

Bug report should be closed.

Recieving SMTP servers don't ask delivering SMTP servers what is your username and password.

Providers might enforce there customers to do special things when they (the customers) want to sent email. Those "special things" are not defined in SMTP.
So don't expect that demands of some provider get follow-up outside their realm.

mlmmj does not deliver to the recieving SMTP Server. It needs a relay whitch may ask for SMTP authentication. SMTP authentication is defined in RFC 4954 SMTP "Service Extension for Authentication".
